Thanksgiving Update

So yesterday we took the bus to a restaurant near China Town called "Carmines" to enjoy a family style Thanksgiving dinner. The meal was excellent but enormous! For the 7 of us they brought out an 18 pound turkey! It should be noted that the members at the table all had a similar stature to me so needless to say we did not get far but it was still excellent and I look forward to the large amounts of leftovers.

Mirror Lake Jump

So this week was "Beat Michigan" week before the yearly showdown of bitter Rivals Ohio State and Michigan in football on Saturday. The highlight of the week (excluding the game) is the Mirror Lake Jump where masses of students jump into the lake in the middle of campus. I did not participate but was on hand to record these photos and videos for your entertainment. Needless to say I was very entertained.

Thanksgiving is near

So in 2 days I will be in Washington DC ready to celebrate Thanksgiving with the family. I am very exciting it will be a little different being away from home for Thanksgiving but it is my favorite holiday because you get time off to spend with your family but it does not have the commercial aspect that Christmas does and does not drag out as long. I hope everyone has a great thanksgiving!

Cool science video

Stole this from a classmate. Check it out
Inner Structure of a Cell

Good pic

Saw this while taking out the trash this morning. Couldn't resist a photo. Solid weekend went out to dinner with two girls from my program Friday night (that's all we could get together) but then Saturday went to the OSU Illinois game which was fun and watched some great Saturday night games. Then today got a lot of homework done and now I am working on a presentation for next week. I am officially done with the Fruit Fly section of my model systems classes which has been a royal pain. Unfortunately I have the same Prof next semester for Developmental but for now a short reprieve. This week I have a presentation and test on Thursday but afterwards we will go out as a program and then a 3 day weekend I believe. Woo woo

Halloween Mixer

So my grad program MCDB (Molecular, Cellular, and Developmental Biology) had a halloween mixer at an Irish Restaurant/Bar/Pub near campus. It's a pretty cool place that I went during my interview weekend and watched a few Euro Cup games this summer. It was a lot of fun to hang out with classmates outside of school. Here are a few photos.

Manson Haunted House

So I went to the Manson Reformatory Haunted House with some people from Dr. Wu's lab following the Purdue game. This prison was pretty awesome it is the place Shawshank Redemption was filmed and they put on a pretty awesome show inside. We were inside for about 40 minutes or so and it was definitely a good haunted house.

Clearly terrified at the events that are about to unfold

Game vs Purdue

My apologies for the delays in the posting. Last weekend after getting my midterms back, I needed a fun weekend and I certainly got it. I went out with friends for a bit Friday night and Saturday I went to the game vs Purdue. OSU gave up a touchdown on the first play and things looked bad. After scoring and taking a 7-6 lead (Purdue missed the extra point), they proceeded to return the kickoff and take the lead again. Long story short we were terrible and were down by 8 with about 2 minutes left. After the backup quarterback threw an interception (because Braxton Miller was hurt), I decided to leave the game to try to beat the crowd. I was going to a Haunted House later but more on that later. As I was leaving I walked North by the river along some tailgates and I noticed a small crowd gathered around someone's satellite tv. I noticed that somehow OSU had the ball back and was driving. I watched the remainder of regulation as they drove and scored the tying touchdown with 3 seconds left and made the 2 point conversion to send it to overtime! The TV was on a 7 second delay (thanks Janet Jackson) and so you could hear the crowd roaring before you saw it happen on the tv. Once we scored, I sprinted back into the stadium and amazingly they let me back in and I got better seats than before! OSU scored in OT and Purdue was not able to so we dramatically won the game. I stuck around to sing songs and the OSU team came over to the student section and cheered and sang along. Then the coach, Urban Meyer, came over and riled up the crowd and everyone started chanting his name. Needless to say it was quite the scene and I don't think I'll forget it for a long time to come.

Fall has arrived

A view of the courtyard from my apartment doorstep.

An incredible halftime show

I saw them rehearsing this the other day while playing tennis by the stadium (photos in the previous posts). This was an awesome performance I will watch it over and over again.

I replaced the older link with this one which is in higher quality and has the Script Ohio part where they make the OHIO and dot the I. This is also because of the Nebraska kickers taking the field and getting booed off.

My first Buckeye Game

So Ohio State played Nebraska this Saturday night at the Horseshoe. I bought tickets this summer so I went by myself but the people around me were nice enough. Overall I could feel the place buzzing from well over a mile away and even though the game was at 8 pm when I went into lab at 11 am there were already mobs of fans tailgating. OSU started slow and I feared a long night but the offense kicked into gear and cruised to a convincing 63-38. Here are some photos.

Not sure who this guy is, but he really wanted to take a photo with me.
